William (Bill) Bellis
William F. Bellis was born into the Raven, Wolf, Killer Whale Clan of the Haida Village of Tanu on April 3, 1963. Mr. Bellis has been a full time self-employed Haida carver, sculptor, artist and jeweller for the last 3) years and is equally at ease working in wood, slate or with precious metals. His work includes totem poles, masks, rattles, etc. in wood; gold and silver in-laid jewellery; argillite carvings; limited edition gold castings; and limited-edition silk screen printmaking. Mr. Bellis apprenticed under the late Haida artist Bill Reid on the 50-foot Haida war canoe "Loo Taa" as well as in his Granville Island art studio in Vancouver (1987-88). Mr. Bellis' works are in many collections around the world. He presently works mainly on monumental wood carving projects such as Haida totem poles and on gold jewellery.
As of late, Bill has been crating amazing pieces using Haida Blacktail Deer antler and bone.
