In his graphic novel \u003ci\u003eRed, A Haida Manga\u003c\/i\u003e (2009), Yahgulanaas uses this distinct style to pay homage to his roots on Haida Gwaii in the northeast Pacific. The tragic story – passed down through oral tradition – tells of two orphaned siblings whose peaceful lives are destroyed by the desire for revenge.
