K’aagwaay
K’aagwaay is a supernatural being known as the Five-Finned Killer Whale in English. K’aagwaay is the Greatest of the Ocean People who is depicted in my painting with a man in its belly. The K’aagwaay is the second design of my Sea Monster Series.
About the Artist
Mike Moody is a Xaayda (Haida) artist from Skidegate from the Raven Clan of Naay K’un Kiigawaay born to two artist parents – his dad a Master carver and his mom an expert weaver. Mike is primarily self-taught, thoroughly studying the works of his ancestors for inspiration. Mike hopes to contribute to the revitalization of the art that was once prolific on Haida Gwaii, which he admires so much.
