Shirley is self-taught and from a family of argillite carvers.  She is sister to the well-known argillite carver Glen Pollard. Her Haida name is Gandal Gawdagaa - which translates to ‘Roaring River’.  Shirley is best known for her two-dimensional flat style.  Shirley is known for her panels as well as her ever-evolving jewellery techniques. Shirley resides in Skidegate where she created pieces, sometimes with her husband Frank.
