“At first glance, Off the Hook is a playful nod to a lucky X̱aaguu (halibut) grinning and unbothered, having just escaped a hook. But beneath that, this depiction explores the power of restraint and the potential in choosing not to take the bait.

We’re often drawn into conflict, misunderstanding, or self-sabotage. Not by accident, but by patterns of reaction we haven’t questioned. This piece invites reflection on personal accountability: how we communicate and relate to our circumstances can shape the course of our experiences.

Off the Hook holds both the tension of potential entrapment and the ease that comes with self-awareness. There’s no struggle in the image, only presence, clarity, and the possibility of another outcome.
